Want to help reduce carbon emissions in industrial sourcing? This thesis focuses on identifying low-carbon steel mills and building tools that support Bufab’s suppliers in making climate-smart decisions. At Bufab, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference – while gaining valuable experience for your future career!
Bufab is a global supplier of fasteners and technical components with a strong focus on sustainability, compliance, and digitalization. As we expand our data-driven sourcing capabilities, we are exploring how AI and machine learning can support sustainability and risk reduction. This thesis focuses on applying ML and NLP to supplier data.
Steel sourcing has a major impact on our carbon footprint. Bufab is working to identify and promote low-carbon producers globally. Your thesis will help us build a knowledge base and decision support tools that benefit both our suppliers and our sustainability goals.
You can choose to focus on mapping steel mills based on carbon intensity and compliance risks, or develop a simulator that compares sourcing options and models cost and carbon footprint – both supporting strategic decisions in our Sustainable Supplier Engagement Program.
🌍 Analyze global steel mill data and sustainability metrics
🌍 Build visual dashboards (Power BI, Qlik) or simulate sourcing strategies and compare mills
🌍 Provide insights for sales and sourcing teams
Your thesis will help Bufab and its suppliers make informed, sustainable sourcing decisions – balancing cost, compliance, and climate impact.
